 19 février 2010 : Luis León Sánchez défendra son titre à Paris-Nice
Luis León Sánchez, qui a pris la neuvième place de la troisième étape du Tour d’Algarve qui s’est déroulée aujourd’hui entre Castro Marim et le Alto do Malhão sur la distance de 173,7 kilomètres, a déclaré après l’étape que: “Je me suis senti bien mais aujourd’hui Contador a démontré qu’il était au-dessus du lot dans un final d’étape qui s’adaptait parfaitement à ses caractéristiques, au sommet d’une montée courte et très explosive. Je suis néanmoins satisfait car même sans être à cent pour cent je me sens bien, avec de bonnes sensations qui s’améliorent de jour en jour. Cela me donne une certaine tranquillité et je tenterai d’obtenir un résultat dans le contre-la-montre qui conclura dimanche la course. ” Le coureur natif de Murcie a également communiqué que: “Nous avons pris la décision de réaliser un changement important dans mon programme. Je vais finalement participer à Paris-Nice (7-14 mars) et non à Tirreno-Adriatico comme initialement prévu. Il aurait s’agi de ma première participation à la course italienne et j’étais motivé pour la disputer car le parcours qui avait été annoncé dans un premier temps incluait un contre-la-montre, une arrivée au sommet de Montelupone et une autre étape de moyenne montagne, mais les organisateurs ont modifié ce programme en ôtant aussi bien le chrono que l’étape de Montelupone. Dans ces conditions, je préfère défendre mon titre à Paris-Nice, une course qui m’a toujours énormément plu et où je pourrai jouer un rôle important au côté d’Alejandro Valverde. ”

I will start in Paris-Nice (7-14 March) instead of Tirreno-Adriatico as initially decided. It would have been my first participation in the Italian race and I felt very motivated to go there because the route was supposed to include a time trial, a mountain stage finishing at the top of Montelupone and another middle mountain stage but the organizers modified that route so that there will be no individual time trial and they also quit the stage of Montelupone. In these conditions I prefer to defend my title in Paris-Nice because the route suits me better and that I will able to do a great job at Alejandro Valverde’s side.”
